Freud’s unconscious mind and the three agencies, the id, the ego and the superego, has dramatic influences on understanding psychiatric disorders. According to Freud, neurotic conflict happens between the id and the ego, if the ego cannot be a qualified ‘guard’, then the whole system might be uncontrolled by the impulse and repression.
On the other hand, most people choose to pay attention to the disease of body, while ignoring changes in the mind, leading to mental illness becoming a potential hazard. Thus I hope through artistic expression I can raise awareness of the importance of mental illness, also, I can let people see the fantasy of the inner world of people with mental illness.
Hypochondriasis / I Think I Am A Shit
Regarding hypochondriasis, how can the id, ego, super ego and subconscious mind make an illusion? Most people who had hypochondriasis express fatigue and sprit fatigue, lacking concentration, motivation and hobby. Sometimes they will be hysterical, most of times, they will be characterised by fixed delusional symptoms, someone said that “Paranoid delusion caused by projection of homosexual feeling. In my work, I use the contrast color to symbolize the sprit fatigue and use vaporwave （emerged in the early 2010s among Internet communities. It is characterized by a nostalgic or surrealist fascination with retro cultural aesthetics）, such as the naked male who has the fly wings and males’ French kiss, distorted Ultraman (an animation character takes Asian by storm)
From Freud’s psychoanalytical concept to specific manifestation. The second part of this work is a light installation, when there are no one in the space, the only thing that you can see is laser and smog-filled space, when you get into the space, you will trigger the laser sensor, if you stop the laser light then one kind of psycho sound will be triggered, when more and more people get into the space, then the spectator will feel they are in the crazy psycho world, and audiences feel the people who are around them like the psychos. They might think what is psycho looks like, to feel what they feel, to fear what they fear, to think what they think. Besides, the most important thing is how to express the themes artist wants to the audience, to pull the audience into the installation and make the spectator became a part of the work. In addition, through this work I can arouse the audience to think, let the audience feel the original idea I want to convey rather than passively accept my defined worldview.

The purpose of this work is to appeal to people's attention in mind. Most people choose to pay attention to the disease of body, while ignoring changes in the heart, leading to mental illness become a potential hazard. Not only caused a security risk for a number of events in the community, and some underlying mental illness with no timely detection, treatment and guide gradually developed into an uncontrollable state. Many diseases at the beginning is a potential, not easy to detect. But later will derive to gradually affect the state of life, and final may lead to crime or suicide. In fact, this is not the patients themselves expected, but because of the social environment, people's self-esteem and blind understanding of mental illness, most people do not realize the need for timely diagnosis and treatment. At last, it causes lifelong damage. So I hope through artistic expression I can raise awareness of the importance of mental illness, so that people will be no longer under control of related disease. And also by the contrast means of artistic expression, I can let people see the difference of the inner world of people with mental illness.
